The gun armed aircraft would, of course, carry rockets as specified by the unit's mission. Flying conditions at the time were described as marginal with a heavy cloud cover from 700' to 9,000'. A soldier of a field arty observation party exited properly to front of A/C but while attempting to return to acft to pick up additional equipment, walked into the T/R during a training exercise at Ft Irwin. A/C was observed to fall straight down and strike ground and explode.
